Stuart & Moki

One morning young Stuart set sail
Hoping fair winds would prevail —
When he finally reached land
Palms swaying in sand
Were only the start of the tale.

Setting out, he would never have guessed
The actual goal of his quest.
He’d never have known
Seafaring alone,
How his fortunate life would be blessed.

The isle held a gift beyond dreaming
Glorious, glowing, and gleaming.
Awaiting him there
Was a goddess so fair —
One glimpse and he found himself beaming.

Good fortune had led him to spot her —
The beauty at home in the water.
This flower of Mokihana*
This walking Nirvana,
This woman, the island’s proud daughter.

It’s been fifty years since they wed —
And what laudable lives they have led,
With the help of a master
To help them grow faster
And the beautiful family they’ve bred.

It’s been fifty years since they wed
And this couple’s still looking ahead
They’re finally at rest
In a lovely new nest
With a radiant future outspread.

* The Mokihana is the official flower of the Hawaiian island of Kauaʻi and is sometimes used as Kauaʻi’s nickname.
