JANE
She has a most beautiful brain
She’s never been heard to complain
She’s reliable, ready,
Stalwart, and steady —
We’re talking, of course, about Jane
She serves as Bevan’s assistant
Whether on campus or distant
Holland, New York —
She floats like a cork —
Persistent, consistent, existent
Is there a job that needs driving?
Jane’s there with her keys — and she’s thriving
Is shopping required?
Jane is inspired —
Whomever’s nearby she’s high-fiving
Need something proofed? She’s an ace —
Mistakes disappear with no trace
She never said can’t
When it came to a grant
And there’s always a smile on that face
Jane always seems to be there
Giving such kindhearted care
To those in transition —
An angelic mission —
She’s an angel, as all are aware
Jane is a Duke ABD —
ABD turned TTC . . .
TTC, ATR,
MIU — there you are —
Jane has the highest degree
Have her literary ambitions been fettered?
No, Jane is quite learned and lettered
She reads, writes, and edits
(Though often without credits)
She cannot be bested or bettered
Jefferson and Jane — meet the Aikens
Both of them ours for the takin’s
And the thing is just this —
They’re achin’ with bliss —
And the world around them awakens
Don’t question the hours they keep
Forgetting the solace of sleep
They’re “see the job, do the job” —
Sail on through the job —
Their anchor in Atma runs deep
Talk about cosmic careers
Jane’s held her position for years —
In action so skilled
In silence fulfilled —
What a beautiful course that she steers
So check all your hatches and batten ’em —
She’ll line up the projects and flatten ’em
Happy birthday, dear Jane —
Long may you reign
You’re silver, you’re gold, and you’re platinum
